Graduate School of Sustainability Science, Tottori University

IntroductionCharacteristics of the Graduate School of Sustainability Science

Our country is required to deal with unprecedented global issues, such as aggravation of the global environmental issues of global warming and desertification, and domestic issues, such as a shrinking and aging population and depopulation in rural areas. In order to achieve a sustainable society, it is essential to make both global and regional conditions sustainable.

The Graduate School of Sustainability Science of Tottori University provides an educational system that comprehensively combines the sustainable society-related characteristics and strengths of the former Graduate School of Regional sciences, Graduate School of Engineering, and Graduate School of Agriculture while maintaining expertise in specialized fields. Under this educational system, the Graduate School of Sustainability Science aims to develop human resources who have a bird’s eye, interdisciplinary perspective and high expertise and who are capable of addressing challenging issues from global environmental issues to social issues, such as depopulation and population aging in rural areas.

Characteristics of Education

Graduate School of Sustainability Science

Under the structured and systematic graduate school education that goes beyond the boundaries of conventional graduate schools, students acquire scientific knowledge concerning the creation of a sustainable society through core subjects common to all departments in the graduate school and subjects that go beyond the boundaries of majors.
